The Navy Distinguished Service Medal (DSM) is a decoration presented by the United States Navy to recognize members who have provided exceedingly valuable service to the United States Government. This award is given to individuals with outstanding responsibility and is generally reserved for senior Navy Flag and Marine Corps General Officers. Subsequent awards are denoted by gold award stars worn on the award ribbon.
