Criteria:

The Joint Chiefs of Staff Distinguished Public Service Medal is presented to United States citizens who do not derive their principal livelihood from the U.S. Government and who show exceptional meritorious service to the Department of Defense, Joint Chiefs or other command. They also need to have rendered this service or assistance at great personal sacrifice, motivated solely by patriotism, good citizenship or sense of public responsibility.
