Antarctica Service Medal
Criteria:
The Antarctica Service Medal (ASM) is granted to military members who serve between 15 and 30 days while stationed on the Antarctic continent which is defined as south of 60 degrees latitude. Flight crews that complete transport missions to Antarctica then qualify for one day of service for each flight mission carried out within a 24-hour time frame. For military members who serve extended winter service in Antarctica receive a Wintered Over Device. The Wintered Over Device is given to personnel in order to illustrate the number of winters served on the Antarctica continent. The ASM was established on July 7, 1960 and it replaced several commemorative awards that were issued for Antarctica expeditions from 1928 to 1941.
