Southwest Asia Service Medal Ribbon
The Southwest Asia Service Medal (SWASM) is a decoration presented by the U.S. Armed Forces to recognize military members who served active duty in support of Operation Desert Shield or Desert Storm within designated geographical regions during the Persian Gulf War. Members who served temporary duty must have served 30 consecutive days or 60 nonconsecutive days to be eligible for the medal unless a waiver is approved for participation in active combat.
A Bronze Star is presented for each campaign that the service member participated in and is to be worn on the medal. All medals will have at least one bronze star.
